PGFTU condemns detentions of workers and call for their protection

PALESTINE— The Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU), on Wednesday condemned the unjustified detentions of Palestinian workers by the Israeli occupation forces.
Israeli forces detained more than 120 Palestinian workers of those employed in the Israeli market and projects. The workers were detained near the village of Azzun Atma in Qalqiliya district in the northwestern West Bank.
These detentions, claimed the Israeli forces, came as a result of “criminal and security related violations” and for entering Israel without permit.
In a statement issued by the federation, it said Wednesday’s detentions are part of a series of restrictions and violations practiced by the Israeli police and occupation forces against Palestinian workers, especially at the military checkpoints and even inside Israeli work sites.
Following an urgent meeting, the Palestinian federation said a letter was sent addressing the ILO, ITUC among other trade union organizations, calling on them to help stop these practices and protect Palestinian workers in accordance with the international agreements and resolutions.
