Egyptian teachers threaten to go on strike

EGYPT— More than 28,000 Egyptian teachers are threatening to go on strike at the beginning of the school year, in response to the cancellation of a protest they were planning to demand their benefits as stipulated in the private sector employees law.

The independent teachers coalition of Egypt presented a request, two weeks ago at the police department in Qasr al-Nil to organize a protest on Saturday, in front of the Ministry of Education. However, the ministry asked for the postponement of the protest until Monday, before cancelling it due to the security conditions.
