Oman plans to deport around 1,000 foreign workers from Muscat airport expansion project

OMAN- Oman plans to deport more than one thousand foreigners who work illegally in Muscat International Airport expansion project.

Director General of the labour care department at the Ministry of Manpower, Salem Bin Saeed Al Badi, said to the local media that “the companies that were employing those workers will be fined and the workers will be deported.

The «Times of Oman» newspaper said that “these workers were employed to build a new building at the airport, but they did not get the necessary construction sector work permits. Instead, they have visas to work in restaurants, cafes and barbers shops and tailoring and domestic service, most of them from South and Southeast Asia, and they represent much more than for Omani nationals who work in the private sector

The government, by this action, aims at reducing number of foreigners in order to provide more jobs for its citizens, and minimizing the amount of money transferred by those workers  to out of the country.
