MAURITANIA— The General Confederation for Mauritanian Workers on Thursday called for protecting the rights of migrant workers and the international agreements signed in this regard.
The call came following an incident that resulted in the death of a migrant worker from Mali.
In a statement it issued, the Confederation said Mamadi Bobo, a worker from Mali in Mauritania died while trying to run away from the police forces that were chasing him to deport him.
While he was running, the statement added, Bobo collided with a sharp iron and died.
Thus the confederation reminded the government with the agreement signed with the government of Mali regarding mutual treatment of workers, noting that the police raids against migrant workers are on the rise.
It also condemned such behaviors against migrant workers and announced its solidarity with workers from Mali in Mauritania.
