EGYPT— While Minister of Manpower and Immigration, Nahed Ashri confirmed her country’s respect for international labor standards, based on Egypt’s ratification of ILO Convention No. 87 of 1948 on Freedom of Association and right to organize, she believes that this agreement does not imply trade union pluralism.
The Minister proposed to hold a coordination meeting between the Committee on Freedom of Association in both, ALO and ILO, in the upcoming Arab Labor Conference in Kuwait in order to determine freedom of association concepts in light of ILO Convention No. 87 of 1948, following the state of pluralism in region that resulted in organizing independent trade unions.
