JORDAN— The Arab Trade Union Confederation (ATUC) and the Arab Trade Unions Media Network expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian teachers and condemned the arrest of teachers for calling for their legitimate rights.
About 20,000 teachers from across the West Bank demonstrated this week in Ramallah outside the office of Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah.
Demonstrators protested calling on the implement the agreement signed in 2013, which stipulates raising their incentives by 10 per cent. The first incentive of 5 per cent was promised to be disbursed on September 1, 2013, while the second half was promised in the first half of 2014.
Members of the Palestinian Teachers’ Union said police conducted a series of raids arresting the teachers who participated in the two-day school strike demanding their rights.
Security forces detained 22 teachers of those who participated in the strike.
The ATUC considers the teachers’ protest as a legitimate rights and call for the immediate release of the detained teachers.
