Algeria – Security and gendarmerie forced broke up a peaceful sit-in of teachers from Maydan Alendemaj, or Bbodeao Boumerdes as they call it, on Monday morning.
According to sources, the security authorities surrounded the place at three in the morning and forced teachers to leave, which led to a clash causing minor injuries in the ranks of teachers. Authorities ordered the protesters to convene at Kharruba station in the capital and to bus them to the states.
According to the source protesters left the bus they were traveling on along the Bordj Bou Arreridj highway, and they cut off the road in Alyashir, deploring the decision by Ministry of Interiors to break up the protest.
Secretary-General Farhat Shabikh of the National Federal of Education said that the state had given necessary time to resolve the contracted teachers dispute, and called the Ministry of Education to give teachers a chance to enroll in the competition so that they do not miss their rights, further adding that social justice should be what matters.
