PALESTINE—The Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) inaugurated its 5th conference that will take place until April 18.
In his opening speech, PGFTU’s Secretary General Shaher Saad referred to risks of Israeli policies on Palestinian workers and the blockade of the Gaza Strip and other practices that affects Palestinians in general.
Saad also called for supporting the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas in his mission to the UN, where he will call for settlement freeze.
He also explained that PGFTU seeks to respond to the workers’ demands through calling for the accelerating drafting the concerned legislations such as introducing minimum wage legislation and a social security bill.
He also tackled the issue of brokers who charge money from Palestinians looking for jobs to issue them work permits, among other issues related to the workers.
The conference was attended by several international participants from word organizations.
