PALESTINE: THE NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR SOCIAL SECURITY WELCOMES THE DIALOGUE ON THE SOCIAL SECURITY ACT

National Campaign for Social Security met this morning with members of the Parliament in the Legislative Council, and agreed on the need for a fair and equitable social security law that preserve human dignity for employees and their families. It was agreed on the necessity to suspend the Social Security Act, No. 6 for 2016, and discuss it with the various components of the community and within agreed timeframe. The national campaign requested the members of Board of Directors of Social Security Institution, to withdraw their candidacy from the membership of the Council.

The campaign confirmed that the slowdown in the suspension of the Social Security Act created confusion in the institutions on how to deal with saving accounts and saving funds, which had a negative impact on the productivity of workers, which would reflect negatively on the economy.

National Campaign welcomed the Cabinets decision to form a ministerial committee headed by the Minister of Labour, Dr. Mamoun Abu Shahla, to discuss the articles that stirred controversy. The campaign also welcomed the decision, especially since it restores the role of the Ministry of Labour, the competent authority that should supervise the implementation of the law.

The national campaign met earlier with the Minister Abu Shahla, in his office, and he expressed his understanding of the demands and observations.
