Security forces use violence against protesting teachers in Algeria

ALGERIA—Security forces in Algeria used force against protesting teachers in the capital, and detained 40 teachers.

According to the National Commission for Contractual Teachers in Algeria, hundreds of police personnel prevented the teachers’ protest from taking place in front of the presidency headquarter and detained dozens of them.

In response to this act, the Commission condemned using force and considered it as “violation of the law”, noting that this move coincides with the signing on an agreement between the ministries of education and interior to reduce violence in schools.

The Commission also warned that several protest will be planned in the upcoming days, announcing that some 20,000 contractual teachers will boycott the “employment contest” that will be held end of April.
