JORDAN— Three Bangladeshi domestic helpers were hospitalized in Jordan after jumping off a three-storey building in Jordan.
Although civil society organizations related the incident to the violations practiced against domestic helpers and the exposure to forced labor, the ministry of labor issued a statement saying that the three women were trying to escape the recruitment office.
The statement, which said that the three women’s health condition is stable, added that they do not accuse anyone of harming them as they will be discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
The ministry also explained that employees of the three Bangladeshi workers sent them back to the office, and they were left to sleep in office when they tried to run away.
According to Tamkeen Centre, in 2014 there were 100 failed suicide attempts by domestic helpers in Jordan down from 108 in the year before.
