Jordan to legalize the employment of Syrian refugees

JORDAN— The Kingdom will provide up to 200,000 job opportunities for Syrian refugees over the upcoming few years, but such a measure hinges on new incoming investments.

Jordanian Minister of Labour Nidal Katamine said currently there are more than 90,000 Syrians working in the country without “permit”, and according to a plan the Jordan presented in the London Conference for donors last week, the employment of Syrians will be legalized.

At a press conference on Sunday, the Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said the Supporting Syria and the Region Conference, held Thursday in London, adopted Jordans “holistic approach” to the Syrian refugee crisis that stressed the need to support the Kingdom to be able to offer decent living for both refugees and host communities.

As the Kingdom is set to receive hundreds of millions of dollars pledged by donor countries, Ensour said authorities will start to draw up programs and strategies to provide economic opportunities for both Jordanians and Syrians.
