Geneva – On the margins of the 105th ILO Conference, more than 400 delegates and representatives of international organizations signed a solidarity petition relating to the deteriorating situation of labour unions in Egypt and Algeria and to breaches of the rights of independent unions which are in particular denied the right to organize to rightful freedoms.
Independent unions have been subjected to blockade and their activities prohibited.
Workers and cloning union have been denied their rights to protest and union members who were detained. Some union members were even tried before military courts and subjected to wrongful termination.
