Egypt: East Delta transportation workers go on strike

Egypt – Drivers at East Delta Transportation went on strike Tuesday, stopping buses going to Port Said, Ismailia, and Suez, demanding the payment of late salaries since January.

The drivers stopped working starting with the night shift on Tuesday. The workers said that they made several attempts to approach the management but in vain.

The workers said they have not received any bonuses or compensation for the past two month, and they are being deprived of any medical or social security care.

The strike caused congestion in the bus station to and from the Suez Canal governorates.

Ahmed Omar added: We demanded our basic rights more than once but in vain, every time we only get promises, and we do not know which Ministry we follow is it the Ministry of Transportation or investment, no one intervenes to solve our problems.

He concluded: we are not asking for salary increase although our salaries does not exceed 1200 pounds, we have been working for this company for 16 years, and we demand the company to pay our financial dues especially that we are in the month of Ramadan.
