Palestine: Palestinian Trade Union confirms that the Palestinian draft law of trade union right to organize narrows freedoms

Palestine – The member of the Palestinian Federation of Trade Unions Ibrahim Dhouib called on  all sectors of society to study in-depth the trade union right to organize  law because  violates the rights and freedoms.

He said during a meeting with members of the Executive Committee of the Federation and the presidents of unions, that the current law restricts the rights and freedoms it also considers the unions a department  of the Ministry  Labour, adding that the law was not discussed by all unions and concerned parties. Dhouib explained that there have been attempts to pass the bill without the knowledge of the parties in the absence of the Palestinian Legislative Council,

He added that the current draft law restricts freedoms and it is  incompatible with the ILO standards, particularly Convention No. 87 and 98, and also inconsistent with the  Arab labour convention standards because the right to organize is guaranteed in the Basic Law as amended in 2003 specifically in Article 25, as well as guaranteed in the Palestinian Labour Law No. 7 in 2000, and in particular Article 5, which guarantees the right to form a trade union in order to defend their interests without any restrictions, as well as Convention No. 8 of 1977 on the rights and freedoms of association, which was ratified by the PLO to June 25, 1981, which is the political grass-roots reference  for all organizations, and not least on economic, social and human rights Rights  and was signed by the state of Palestine without any reservation 2014.
