Tunisia: Radio Kalima staff continue their strike

Tunisa – workers at radio kalima FM continued their open strike for the ninth day in a row inside the radio headquarters in Tunisia until the settlement of their situations and payment of all their dues.

On the tenth of October radio manager informed the workers of collective expulsion and the closure of the institution, in a sudden and arbitrary way, claiming that the institution is unable to pay their salaries.

And  on the tenth of this month, a delegation of journalists from the institution met with the head of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists Naji Bghouri, who requested an urgent meeting with the High Authority of Audiovisual Communication (HACA) to discuss the legal status of the radio.

 

The National Union of Tunisian Journalists which fall under the Tunisian General Federation of Labor sent Adel Monafth to inspect the arbitrary expulsion, which affected journalists and technical, while the head of the institution refused to receive him or talk to him.

 

Workers demanded the institution to respect the labor law and legal procedures, also called HACA to take its responsibility especially with regard to respect media institutions Terms  booklet, and to ensure the financial and moral rights of journalists in similar cases .

For his part, the Director of Radio confirmed that he would give up only 8 reporters in legal ways to enable them of their entitlements. Protesters at the headquarters of Radio said that these are only claims and the radio will proceed with their plan to expel the rest of workers.
