Egypt – Workers at Egypt Foods held an open strike yesterday in front of the headquarters as a response to the suspension of 21 workers and to demand annual bonuses, a raise in salaries, and the dismissal of “shipsy” manager.
The company and its factories are located in the industrial area in the district of Quisna, Menufiya.
A worker said that The Company’s management mistreated the workers and closed the air conditions despite the high temperatures, and forced them to work for extra two hours in packing machine, and push them to sign on salary cuts which led to shrinking wages.
Since the beginning of Ramadan, the workers have been complaining about the extra hours they had to work during the month. The company had stated that this is an important season as snack consumption increases.
He explained that the basic salary of employees is 220 Egyptian pounds, in addition to 150 Egyptian pound monthly for meals at the rate of 5 pounds per day, 3 pounds a day for second shift, and 5 pounds per day for third shift, he said: We are tired we need to provide our family with food and when we demanded our rights they fired us”.
