Just Transition

The Arab Center for Just Transition

The Arab Center for Just Transition was established in 2020 by the Arab Trade Union Confederation to strengthen the capacities of trade union organizations across the Arab region and to defend and represent workers’ interests in negotiation and planning processes to ensure a just transition of Arab economies toward a low-carbon future.

Through its member trade unions, the Center advocates for the development of just transition plans that guarantee the creation of decent and improved job opportunities, enhance social protection systems, expand training opportunities, and improve job security for all workers affected by climate change and global warming policies.

The Arab Center for Just Transition engages all relevant stakeholders to accelerate the just transition process through the following actions:

· Empowering Workers and Their Allies: By providing successful models of just transition processes and plans, facilitating the exchange of skills and experiences, and building capacities in the field of just transition.

· Documenting Best Practices in Social Dialogue: Through conducting interviews, producing videos, reports, and case studies that capture effective approaches and lessons learned.

· Empowering and Supporting Member Trade Union Organizations: To take the initiative in launching social dialogue processes involving unions, local communities, governments, employers, and experts.

· Representing Arab Trade Unions in International Conferences: Participating in global and national forums that discuss strategies and policies for just transition, and contributing to the development of effective plans for their implementation.
