Statement on The Gaza Strip is an Inseparable Part of the Palestinian State

Amman, February 13, 2025

The Arab Trade Union Confederation (ATUC) is following with deep concern the recent statements calling for the displacement of the population of Gaza from their land — a blatant challenge to international legitimacy and a direct violation of Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which classifies forced displacement, whether collective or individual, as a war crime under Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

These calls for the displacement of Gaza’s residents have encouraged the Prime Minister of the occupying power to defy the ceasefire agreement on Gaza and have disrupted efforts toward sustainable stability in the region. They also threaten to derail international efforts aimed at rebuilding the Gaza Strip.

While ATUC strongly condemns such statements, it welcomes the broad consensus among the majority of international institutions and bodies in rejecting these escalation-driven narratives. ATUC urges them to continue their efforts toward imposing a just peace in the region and confronting any attempts to override international legitimacy and the rule of law.

The affirmation by the vast majority of international civil society components rejecting the displacement of Gaza’s residents and asserting that Gaza is an inseparable part of Palestine is a powerful incentive to isolate and contain extremist rhetoric in the region. These stances now require urgent translation into concrete actions — including the immediate and unrestricted entry of medical, energy, and food aid, and the convening of an international conference for the reconstruction of Gaza as soon as possible.
