The bloody war waged by the Israeli occupation forces on the Gaza Strip has continued for more than a year, amid international silence that has only encouraged its expansion into Lebanon, placing the stability of the entire region at risk of sliding into a war whose consequences and extent no one can predict.
International political efforts aimed at stopping the genocide against the people of Gaza have revealed the blind alignment of several influential global powers with one of the most brutal military forces, granting it the green light to crush Gaza and extend the war to Lebanon. This raises serious questions about the intentions of the Israeli occupation and its allies regarding the entire region.
The General Council of the Arab Trade Union Confederation expresses its solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples and commends their resilience in the face of war, siege, and starvation. At the same time, it strongly condemns international silence and the complete failure to enforce international legal provisions protecting civilians in times of war, as well as the inability to facilitate humanitarian aid to the population of Gaza, which is experiencing a catastrophe of unprecedented scale.
In this context, the General Council of the Arab Trade Union Confederation calls on all trade union organizations affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) worldwide to unite to put an end to the ongoing war in the Middle East. It also urges that the upcoming General Council meeting of the ITUC, scheduled for December 2 in Brazil, be used as a platform to send a clear trade union message condemning the war and reaffirming the global labor movement’s support for the Palestinian people in their struggle for independence, statehood, and self-determination.
Long live the Arab trade union movement—free, independent, democratic, and united in solidarity!
On behalf of the General Council President
Shaher Saad
