In her participation in the 2023 Euromed Summit of Economic and Social Councils and similar institutions, held in Alexandria on the 4th and 5th of July, Hind Ben Ammar, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Arab Trade Union Confederation (ATUC), emphasized that social dialogue is the ideal framework for achieving a just transition in the Mediterranean region. She highlighted that the political instability in several countries in the southern Mediterranean poses an obstacle to achieving a fair and inclusive transition.
In her discussion of the trade union movement’s position, she listed the commitments of trade union organizations, including the goal of achieving zero carbon emissions and the necessity of compelling polluting industrial institutions to reduce their harmful activities and contribute to financing development and promoting investment projects for the benefit of youth, migrants, vulnerable groups, and especially women, who are socially marginalized in terms of economic and social indicators in the southern Mediterranean.
