According to the network’s June 2022 survey, Jordan, Sudan and Tunisia top the list of migration intentions, with almost half of the population expressing a desire to migrate.
The survey, which sampled more than 33,000 people across 14 countries, found that around 30% of the population in these countries are seeking to migrate for economic, political, security and educational reasons.
Economic factors top the list, however, with 97% of respondents in Egypt saying that economic hardship was the reason for their choice to emigrate, compared to 93% in Jordan and 53% in Libya.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has published a revealing study on the impact of the pandemic on the economies of the Middle East and North Africa, where unemployment rates, particularly among young people, are rising.
