Tunisia: FTDES expects an increase in the emigration rates of Tunisians in 2023

In this context, the forum’s media official, Ramadan Ben Omar, stated that more than 35,000 Tunisians arrived in European Union countries during the year 2022, which is the largest number in the history of irregular immigration from Tunisia.

FTDES official said in a press statement that “the dire political, economic and social situation, and with the deterioration of public services, the desire for irregular immigration will increase in 2023.”

In addition, the speaker referred to the phenomenon of the migration of entire families (700 families) and unaccompanied minors, despite the dangers surrounding attempts to migrate by sea. It is likely that 2023 will witness a rise in these numbers due to the deteriorating economic and social conditions in the country.

FTDES also noted an occurrence in immigrant groups, as the country witnessed the departure of large numbers of doctors, engineers and professional personnel to work abroad through legal means.
