Jordan: GFJTU calls for aligning the minimum wage with inflation rates

In a statement issued on 2 January, the federation’s president pointed out that the committee had decided, at the beginning of 2022, to postpone the entry into force of this decision, as the current minimum wage is not sufficient to meet daily needs.

The trade union leader pointed out that there is a large gap between the average wage, which varies between 450 and 500 Jordanian dinars ($633/$704), and the poverty line, which is estimated, according to studies, at 800 Jordanian dinars ($1057).

The president of the trade union centre said that the gap between the minimum wage, 260 dinars ($366), and the general wage average does not guarantee a decent life for Jordanians.
