In a statement issued on 22 December, the union fiercely opposed the decision of the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Lebanon, accusing them of “seeking to finance the public sector by plundering the private sector, its companies and its employees.”
The union called on the Ministry to reverse this decision while announcing its intention to fight against any attempt to “plunder the country’s resources.”
The Syndicate of Workers and Civil Servants of the American University of Beirut announced that a general strike will take place if the “destructive” decisions of the Ministry and the Central Bank are not reviewed, warning against the closure of some institutions and the emigration of managers.
