On the occasion of the 70th commemoration of the 1952 uprising, which broke out following the assassination of Tunisian trade unionist Farhat Hached on 5 December 1952, UMT issued a statement calling on the governments of the Maghreb countries to facilitate the mobility of their citizens and to lift visas between their countries.
The trade union centre recalled that the success of the general strike observed in Casablanca on 8 December 1952 was a starting point for the constitution of the first nucleus of what would later become the UMT.
