This strike, which will affect all economic sectors of the city, including industrial enterprises and the commercial port, comes in response to police violence exercised against the peaceful protest organised on Friday 18 November by the families of the victims of the boat that capsized in September.
In the protest, the families of the victims called for the disclosure of the results of the investigation and accused the authorities of mishandling the situation after the bodies of several victims were buried without any legal procedures being followed.
The inhabitants of Zarzis observed a general strike on 18 October at the call of the Regional Labour Union, the Association of Seamen, and other components of civil society.
