ILO urges Qatar to have labour reforms

ILO’s report noted the reforms in administrating migrant workers, the implementation of labour law, access to justice and social dialogue, which enabled workers in the projects of the FIFA World Cup to achieve remarkable and positive progress in resolving many crises. Similarly, the report drew attention to the shortcomings that must be addressed in order to implement reforms in the field of labour in line with international labour standards.

In this context, Ruba Jaradat, ILO Regional Director for Arab States said that “among the top priorities of the ILO is the need to ensure that all workers and employers’ benefit from sponsorship reforms related to worker relocations, as well as facilitating and simplifying access to justice, receiving unpaid salaries, and the full implementation of laws on the rights of domestic workers. ILO will continue to work with the government, workers, and employers to further support the alignment of Qatar’s laws and practices with international labour standards.”
