This strike was called by the regional labour union of Zarzis, affiliated with the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), in protest against the burial of victims of an irregular migration attempt, in the cemetery of foreigners whose identities cannot be identified.
The authorities’ decision sparked outrage among the families of the victims who died in the tragedy of Zarsis in which 18 Tunisian migrants disappeared and were found later in the coast of Zarzis between 20 and 21 September 2022.
