This came after the tragic loss of 18 people, which occurred recently in the coastal region of Zarzis in the south of the country, as they sailed in an irregular migration process towards the Europe. All contact with them was cut off before the proof of their drowning came. Efforts to search for the missing, in which volunteer sailors and citizens participated, resulted in the discovery of 9 bodies.
FTDES condemned the weak response of the official authorities to the ongoing humanitarian crisis on the Tunisian coasts and their abandonment of the missing at sea and their families.
It is worth noting that since the start of the year, 542 migrants have been victims of irregular immigration attempts.
