Mauritania: 25 fishery syndicates call for revising the sector’s collective agreement

In a letter addressed to the Mauritanian Ministry of Fishery, the syndicate explained that the social situation of the fishermen has deteriorated significantly due to the rise in prices and the decline in their purchasing power. The letter also highlighted the wage gap between Mauritanian workers and their foreign colleagues, despite the fact that they do the same tasks.

Local media reported that trade unionists in the fishery sector have announced the creation of a committee representing 13 categories of fishermen to present proposals for negotiations on the revision of the sector’s collective agreement.

It is worth noting that the last revision dates back to the year 2020.
