The Syndicate of Bank Employees in Lebanon announced the new closure, decided by the Association of Banks in Lebanon.
Robberies committed by customers demanding to withdraw their money blocked in banks have indeed multiplied in recent weeks. This unprecedented situation is the result of the crisis that Lebanese banks have been experiencing since 2019, the year that marked the beginning of the dollar shortage on the Lebanese market. Lebanon has been experiencing an unprecedented economic crisis for nearly three years, which led to the collapse of its currency against the dollar.
It is worth noting that Lebanese banks had a week-long strike last month for the same reasons.
