In this context, the Syrian authorities announced this week that a boat had sunk off the coast of Tartous. According to initial data, 94 migrants died while 20 others were rescued during search and rescue operations.
The Lebanese authorities have stated that the boat left the city of Miniyeh (north) on 20 September and was carrying between 120 and 150 migrants from Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine.
It is worth noting that the central Mediterranean is classified as the most dangerous migratory route in the world. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has estimated the number of dead and missing in this area to be around 990 in the first half of 2022.
