Morocco: Trade unions to launch new negotiations with the Higher Committee for Social Dialogue

The committee will deal with a number of controversial social demands, such as the reduction of income tax to strengthen the purchasing power of employees, increasing salaries to cope with rising prices, and the payment of compensation for teachers’ promotions.

The government is also seeking to pass files on pension reform and the revision of the Labour Code, as well as to promulgate the law on strikes.

It is worth noting that the Moroccan government signed a national charter for social dialogue and a social agreement with the most important trade unions and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) on 30 April last. The agreement included several provisions, including an increase in the minimum wage in the private sector by 10% on two parts starting next year and a reduction in income tax. The agreement also included the launch of a comprehensive reform of the pension systems.
