The affected civil servants held a rally in front of the headquarters of the Insurance and Pension Fund calling for the decision to be cancelled, especially as they will receive a pension of half their salaries. Observers said that this decision will impact the living conditions of these civil servants and increase poverty and unemployment rates.
Reacting to the controversy, the Ministry of Finance recalled that it was part of a comprehensive reform plan for public spending, which includes reducing the wage bill (133,000 civil servants), which depletes public revenues, estimated at about 300 million dollars.
It is worth noting that the Palestinian government had previously imposed mandatory early retirement on Gaza employees in 2017.
