A statement by the General Federation of Oil and Gas Workers in Libya stated that the accident occurred while an oil services company was activating the coiled tubing of the well using nitrogen, and the tank containing this substance ignited.
The National Oil Corporation of Libya, in turn, issued a statement noting that a specialized committee will undertake an independent investigation into the causes of the accident, apply all security and safety measures, and address the procedures for transporting and burying the deceased and treating the injured at the company’s expense.
