The Palestinian authorities and occupation forces agreed on the new method of payment of salaries for more efficiency. However, the workers fear that their wages will decrease as a result of imposing undisclosed fees and new taxes on their income in the banks.
About 200,000 Palestinians cross daily into the occupied territories for work, most of them do not have bank accounts. The new measures will benefit Palestinian authorities by creating a new source of income and Palestinian banks in the form of service fees.
The Palestinian Minister of Labour stated that the new procedure aims to protect the rights of workers, and that there is no plan to impose new taxes.
