Tunisia: More than one thousand victims of human trafficking in 2021 (INLTP)

INLTP explained that half of the victims are Tunisians, mainly women and girls, who have been exposed to the exploitation of children and the sale of infants, while foreigners, who are of 19 African and Arab nationalities and mostly women, have been trafficked because of “irregular immigration and residence.”

The report also revealed that the sexual exploitation of children increased by 32% in 2020 compared to 2019, with the number of victims rising from 103 in 2019 to 289 in 2020.

It is worth noting that Tunisia was ranked second in the world ranking of countries in the fight against trafficking in persons for the year 2022. This ranking is carried out by the U.S. Department of State through its special office for the fight and monitoring of human trafficking.
