The report indicated that the pandemic negatively affected people of younger ages, who constitute one fifth of the working-age population in Jordan. In this context, official statistics indicate that more than half of the country’s youth are unemployed since the end of 2021, which particularly affected young women.
The report suggested setting a stronger reform agenda for investment, noting that Jordan first needs to reform the micro-economy to activate the establishment and operation of private companies, while making serious efforts to consolidate equal opportunities.
These reforms will enable Jordan to address unemployment and the current labour market conditions, especially for women and youth. These efforts, with more dynamic participation of the private sector, can increase the efficiency of resource use in productive sectors, leading to increased production and growth.
