Jim Campbell, Director of the Health Workforce at WHO said “Women comprise the majority of workers in the health and care sector, yet in far too many countries systemic biases are resulting in pernicious pay penalties against them.”
The report also showed that mothers working in the health and care sector face additional penalties during their childbearing years, as employment and gender wage gaps in the sector increase dramatically. These gaps then persist throughout women’s working life.
This report, which is the most comprehensive global analysis of gender pay disparities in the health and care sector, aims to push for “effective action” to eliminate prejudice against women, by addressing success stories achieved in many countries thanks to the political commitment to equal pay.
