The Palestinian Working Women’s Society for Development (PWWSD) issued a statement in which it stated that the call for the strike came against the killing of the two young women, Naira Ashraf (Egypt) and Iman Arshdy (Jordan), by their two colleagues at the university, and other misdeeds in the Arab world. It also denounces that the killing of Women are just passing news.
The statement also mentioned that Palestinian women are subjected to violence on various levels, by the occupation soldiers at military checkpoints and by settlers and their families at home.
The statement called for the speedy adoption of laws based on justice and equality, including personal status laws and the Family Protection from Violence Law and the necessity of settling the international conventions to which the State of Palestine has acceded within the national legislative system.
The statement also called for building a safety net to protect women, on the political, human rights, and associative levels, and to hold perpetrators of violence against women accountable, especially murders, and to prohibit impunity in these cases.
