The strike came in protest against the rise in fuel prices. The protestors are calling on the government to support the fuel sector in light of the high rise in its prices. They also demand a license to import vehicles from the occupied interior, and to prevent private cars from transporting citizens at the expense of public transport.
The Transport Workers and Drivers Syndicate had previously conducted negotiations with the Palestinian Ministry of Transport and Communications, but no satisfactory results were reached.
Public transport workers have threatened to go on strike next week if the government does not respond to their demands.
