Infomigrants reported that the incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday 14 June after the Italian authorities alerted to a truck carrying irregular migrants at their borders. Attempting to stop the truck, French police opened fire on the vehicle and a bullet passed through the refrigerator container, hitting one of the five migrants in the head, according to a statement from the Nice city prosecutor. The victim was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries.
According to several NGOs, around 30 migrants have died on the French-Italian borders since 2015.
