Libya: Foreigners are excluded from certain jobs

The Libyan Ministry of Economy and Trade issued a decision banning the practice of commercial activities for non-Libyan citizens. Foreign workers in Libya run many activities and professions, based on the Libyan Economy Law of 2010, which provides for foreigners to practice all professions.

Observers believe that this decision has negative repercussions on African and Arab migrant workers in Libya. It contradicts bilateral agreements between Libya and the rest of the countries regarding Arab labour. The law did not propose any alternative, especially since many of the jobs are occupied by foreigners and are not accepted by citizens.
