In a media statement, the FTDES spokesperson explained that Italy and France have called on Tunisia to strengthen the control of its maritime borders as they continue to expel irregular migrants. The spokesman said that some European countries seek to systematically return to Tunisia any migrant who arrives on their soil from the Tunisian coast.
The official said that Paris and Rome are trying to put pressure on Tunis by advancing the aid they can provide to the country in the context of its negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
