Jordan: Workers’ Office calls for a national strategy to combat child labour

Alerting to the increase in the number of working children compared to the 2016 statistics, the office called for updating child labour data to accurately identify the impact of the pandemic and the rising unemployment rate on this phenomenon.

The report also indicated, based on the latest data, that agriculture is the main sector employing children aged between 5 and 11 years, while manufacturing, construction, sales, and repair industries employ children aged between 15 and 17 years. In this context, the office recalled the risks that minors run at work and the repercussions that this can have on their physical and psychological health.
