Tunisia: Towards a revision of public sector salaries

During a press conference, the minister indicated that this salary revision “will be done within the means of the state.”

According to official data, about 661.7 people work in the public sector for a wage bill estimated at 20.3 billion dinars (6.8 billion dollars), or 35% of GDP.

A programme to revise the basic status of the civil service has been announced, aimed at readjusting recruitment and the wage bill. The minister explained that the announced reforms come in response to the country’s urgent needs and not to the requests of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), assuring that Tunisia is committed to settling all its debts and ensuring all its expenses.
