These protests, which took place on the morning of Tuesday, June 07, were confronted by the security authorities with the use of excessive force against the protestors, in which one of the workers was seriously injured and hospitalized in a critical condition. Three workers were dismissed for their participation in the protests.
The General Union of Iraqi Electricity Workers, affiliated with General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU), affirmed support for the legitimate demands of workers, and strongly condemned the use of excessive violence against peaceful protestors.
