Algeria: Strike on 26 and 27 April in the civil service

The Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions (CSA), a group of 30 unions, has called for a strike in all sectors of the civil service, including education, training, and health sectors, on 26 and 27 April.

Last week, the Algerian government announced new salary increases ranging from 2,250 (about $16) to 5,000 Algerian dinars ($35), depending on the grade.

In a statement, the unions warned that “the precariousness of the situation of employees can seriously threaten social peace.” The unions called for a review of wage policies and the creation of a national observatory to protect the purchasing power, as well as investigating the file on compensation schemes and the revision of grants of geography.
