In a statement, the federation denounced the authorities’ delay in resolving the sector’s issues, the violent way of dealing with the protests of contractual teachers, and the infringement of union freedoms. The federation, also, decided to launch a general national strike on March 17-18.
It is worth noting that the professors who were forced to have a contract organized a protest at the beginning of March to demand their inclusion in the public service system and receiving the same rights as tenured professors. However, the authorities confronted the protesters with arrests and trials that ranged from three months of effective imprisonment to two months of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 1,000 dirhams (US$103).
